Inside the rsync Source: Three Ideas Worth Reading

rsync is thirty years old and nobody reads it. I did — the real tree, protocol 33 — for three ideas: a --delete that fails closed on an I/O error, a weak checksum that rolls so the cheap question stays affordable at every byte, and a file list that learned to stream the whole tree.
