vTiger CRM — configuring, extending, and integrating open-source CRM for sales, support, and business operations.
Overview
vTiger is an open-source CRM (Salesforce Alternative) used for leads, opportunities, contacts, and support workflows. I have worked at the level of customisation and integration that teams actually need — modules, fields, workflows, and reports.
My focus is making a CRM fit the business rather than reshaping the business around it: custom module and workflow configuration, email-to-case and support automation, and role-based access that keeps data ownership sane.
Integration is where CRMs earn their keep — syncing with invoicing, telephony, and web forms through vTiger's web services and REST APIs, so the CRM is the operating picture, not a silo.
Configuration is done to fit the workflow. I shape modules, fields, and layouts to how the team actually operates, so the CRM mirrors the process instead of forcing the team to translate it into an inflexible tool.
Process automation removes the manual drift. Workflows for lead assignment, case routing, and alerts turn "someone should remember to..." into deterministic behaviour, which is what keeps a sales pipeline and a support queue moving predictably.
Roles and permissions keep data ownership honest. I model access so each team sees only what it should, which protects accountability and keeps the CRM a tool of record rather than a free-for-all of edits.
Integration is where the CRM stops being a silo. Web services and REST link it to invoicing, telephony, and web forms, so the CRM reflects the business in real time instead of needing a data-entry chore to stay current.
Because vTiger sits on PHP and MySQL, customisation reuses the discipline of any serious PHP codebase — clean modules, versioned schema changes, and maintainable views rather than hacky core edits.
The craft is bending the tool to the business and connecting it to the rest of operations — so the CRM is the working picture of the company, not another system the team has to enter the same data into twice.
How I Work With vTiger CRM
I configure to the workflow, not the other way around. Modules, fields, and layouts are shaped to how the team actually operates, so the CRM mirrors the process.
Process automation removes manual drift. Workflows for lead assignment, case routing, and alerts turn "someone should remember to" into deterministic behaviour.
Roles and permissions keep ownership honest. I model access so each team sees only what it should, keeping the CRM a tool of record rather than a free-for-all.
Integration is where the CRM stops being a silo. Web services and REST link it to invoicing, telephony, and web forms, so the CRM reflects the business in real time.
Because vTiger sits on PHP and MySQL, customisation reuses serious-PHP discipline — clean modules, versioned schema changes, and maintainable views rather than hacks.
I keep the data clean at the source. Input validation, de-duplication, and consistent naming mean the CRM stays trustworthy as the operating picture.
Reporting is built to answer real questions. Reports and dashboards are configured around the decisions the team actually needs to make.
Support and sales automation are balanced. Email-to-case and lead routing keep both flows moving without burying the team in noise.
The craft is bending the tool to the business and connecting it to operations — so the CRM is the real picture of the company, not a second system to double-enter data into.
